SWAP Energy Limited is a subsidiary of SWAP Technologies & Telecomms PLC which was incorporated with the Nigeria Corporate Affairs Commission in May 2006 and registered with DPR, Directorate of Petroleum Resources. It was setup to take advantage of various emerging market opportunities in the energy support business for the Telecomms industry as this is one of the major cost drivers in the industry as basically all the Base stations are powered with Generators requiring diesel 24/7 with the attendant implication of high oil prices and thus increasing diesel cost to power the stations. To this end SWAP Energy has tied up with Orun Energy Nigeria as their exclusive partner in Nigeria to provide alternative power solutions for the Telecomms operators that will result in up to 76% savings in present diesel cost. The company has also applied to the BPE, the Bureau of Public Enterprises, for the acquisition of two distribution companies under the PHCN, Power Holding Company of Nigeria, privatization program.
